No. For AMD, 2x1Gb. For Intel, there is no difference, but 4x512 normally costs more.

Duh...yeah...I always get the largest I can afford. I have 4x1Gb. 512Mb will cost more....and more actual RAM for the data to "run" through. I would think it would be slower.

Yes, in a way.

It's cheaper and easier to get 4 high speed memory (low latency) memory then 2 really large low speed latency memory. Look for in the description of the memory for CLS X-X-X-X where X will be a number. The lower the better.

Aka its cheaper to find for 4x512 CLS x-x-x-x sims then trying to find 2x1gb in CLS x-x-x-x (if you can find these at all). Not only that if one goes bad you lose 1/4 of your memory where if you only had 2x you would lose 1/2 your ram.

My motherboard only has 3 memory slots. I have two sticks of ram (2x512) - it is 2-3-2-6.
It would be more expensive/harder to find a a 1x1gb at 2-3-2-6

I *think* the lowest speed is 2-2-2-5 but I can be very wrong on this.

yea, i heard that 512 run faster than 1gb, but old dood has a point, its morew ram to run through

i found 1gbx2=2gb
Timing 3-4-4-8
Voltage 2.7V

actually....

2x 1gb sticks would run at dual channel, also:

4x512 sticks on a dual channel motherboard would mean that all the sticks would run at double bandwidth.

Stick 1 and 3 will work together and stick 2 and 4 will also work together, so with ddr 400 thats 6.4GB per second transfer rate.

it would depend what ram types you use, and i think this would be a cost thing more than anything, 1gb sticks tend to be overpriced!

I myself run 4x 512mb and notice no problems

Your motherboard CANT have 3 DDR RAM slots, because unless you only use 1 stick of RAM, you have to install them in pairs.

But to answer the question, even one 512MB is more than enough for GW, unless you need ur RAM to carry the weight of a slow ISP.

dual channel only works for 2 slots on my old 3 slot motherboard, are you trying to run the memory at dual channel?

Dual channel will work with three. You need the 2 ones together to match the separate one.

My motherboard doesn't support dual channel. Single Chanel only. Via KT800 chipset. And it only has three slots for memory - http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Mo...Name=GA-K8VNXP

Memory

1. Type: DDR400/ 333/ 266- 184pin
2. Max capacity: Up to 3GB by 3 DIMM slots

I don't have to install them in pairs either (I have an AMD system)
